Nebraska County Fossils

A virtual journey through the Museum's vertebrate paleontology collection.

Discover Your County's Fossils

Nebraska's rich fossil heritage is far too abundant for any museum exhibit hall to display. The fossil collection holds more than 1 million specimens from every corner of Nebraska. This amazing scientific resource has been accumulated through 150 years of active collecting by Museum field crews and through fossil donations by countless Nebraska citizens. Nebraskans are proud of their natural heritage, and delight in learning about how their own hometowns and regions have contributed to our understanding of the geologic and life histories of theĀ Great Plains.
